I painted this piece from a black and white photograph of Whitney Houston, which gave me the freedom to create my own color palette. I built the portrait using layers of bold, expressive color while allowing some of the brushwork and texture to remain visible. The deep blacks create a strong contrast against the blues, pinks, yellows, and warmer tones throughout her skin, bringing new life and energy to the original image.
